The first phone in the world was created in the year 1908 and this was when a US Patent was issued in Kentucky for a wireless telephone.

The first phone was a device that wasn't considered as a mobile phone, it was considered as a device that just allowed communication between two people like Taxi drivers or workers in different regions trying to talk to each other when distant from each other.

In 1973, Motorola was the first company to create a mobile smartphone and it was also recorded that the first mobile phone call was made on the 3rd of April 1973 and since then phones have evolved from being just communication gadgets to devices that can text, send emails and access the internet.

The early devices worked on different network modes with GPRS, EDGE (2G), UMTS, HSPA, HSPA +, and 4G and at that time having a 4G smartphone or a 3G smartphone that supported HSPA+ made your internet faster, but due to 5G network that was launched two years ago we now experience better speeds on smartphones today, oh dear I can't imagine how it felt waiting for 10-20 minutes waiting for your 50MB file to download with 2G network.

The early mobile phones weren't so fun, but they made life easier for people at that time, from phones that ran on Java to blackberry smartphones that made multitasking easy, to windows touchscreen smartphones that had cool games and apps which were easy to use, In this article, we have carefully made research and compiled 4 of the best Smartphones that made our childhood fun.

1. Blackberry

(Blackberry Smartphone)

Blackberries were one of the best smartphones in the world before android phones came, they were phones that had physical keyboards that were used in sending emails, surfing the internet, or chatting on the popular social App Blackberry Messenger (BBM) at that time.

Blackberries were very great smartphones that supported had great network speeds and made multitasking easy, but their downfall began when they made their top app which was the blackberry messenger (BBM) run on an Android, so since then a lot of users started ditching the blackberry since they could access the most important aspect of the phone on another phone.

They recently announced that their blackberry smartphones from Blackberry OS 10 and below won't be able to make calls, text, access the internet, or even dial 9.1.1 from today January 4, 2022, so in other words, the phone won't be useful from today, but despite how blackberry fell, they were one of the best smartphones that made our childhood fun... Farewell Blackberry.

2. Symbian phones

Before the evolution of android phones, Symbian phones were considered to be the best smartphones at that time, they were phones that didn't just make multitasking easy and fast, they also had one of the best cameras you could find in a smartphone at that time.

Symbian phones were good phones with complicated software because you had read the manual of the phone before understanding how to operate it, unlike blackberry, Symbian phones embraced the idea of touchscreen smartphones when it came, and they were also one of the first 3G smartphones in the world.

Symbian was the leading smartphone platform from the year 2003 to 2010 and they had about 65 percent of the smartphone market in 2007, but the sales of the smartphone from Nokia started to decline when they made the software open-source.

The smartphone brand was still in sale until Nokia killed the smartphone software when they went for the Lumia using Microsoft software in 2011 and ditched the Symbian and since then the software slowly faced extinction.

3. Java Phones

We all would agree that apart from gaming consoles, Java phones were one of the best devices to play games before Android phones became popular, they had a  variety of games and apps which were popular like Prince of Persia, Pro Evolution Soccer, and others.

Unlike Blackberry and Symbian phones, Java phones were phones that couldn't multitask and it made them have good battery life, there are still a few java Phones on sale today, but they are not considered as relevant because they do not offer anything new, they don't get new apps or games, since most app developers create apps and games for Android and iPhones.

4. Windows Phones

Smartphones that ran on Windows OS were one of the coolest smartphones in the world because they had a beautiful operating system and they offered most of the important features of a windows computer.

The windows smartphone OS was great, but one major thing that made the smartphone fail was the fact that it had very few apps on its app store, the main problem was that no one wanted to use a phone with few apps and no developer wanted to create apps for a phone with few people.
